Where I Live con't

Continuing with this meme......
Carrie mentioned the Thomas Wolfe Memorial. I have not been able to get over there, but I thought of something along those lines, but different and will get that pic up as soon as I can.

Judy mentioned the Biltmore House, as did Deana.
Ok, here is the deal with that: Yes, it is awesome. But, I would have to pay to get anywhere near it for pics and I'm not going to do that! The things is, Eman worked at the winery for a while and well.....once you have worked for them...you really don't want to go back! Not saying anymore on that topic...but, there won't be any pics here of Biltmore House!

So, what I thought I would do is pull out a few of my fav pics from around here and share how I came here and my fav spots. So, this will be on-going throughout the week.

So, how did I end up here?

We were living in Charlotte at the time. My oldest daughter was deciding on colleges and UNCA was on her list of possibilities. We came to visit here and since it was dead of winter and cold...I didn't have any particular impressions. But, UNCA was her first choice and she packed up and moved here.
We would come and visit here and each time I felt more comfortable here. It reminded me of Flagstaff, AZ.
Then something happened.
I felt myself drawn here.
We visited more often. I even decided to set up a booth here at Interiors Marketplace.
So, because I couldn't get it off my mind, I put it out to the Universe one day.
"Should we move to Asheville? If we are to go, give me a positive sign"
Now, I believe in free will...we do what we wish to do...but sometimes I like to get confirmation on things.
So, after I put it 'out there' we took a trip to visit Raja.
We were walking around downtown and stopped by T.J. Morrison (which has closed since then)
I looked in the window and there was a t-shirt with Kokopeli on it...under Kokopelli was 'Asheville'.
I stood with my jaw on the ground.
If I have any sort of personal icon, it is Kokopelli. I collect Kokopelli figures, one of my fav authors did a fictional story giving Kokopelli  a life with a beautiful story.
OK, I smiled and thought...Hmmmmmm...a Kokopelli in Asheville, NC.
Next, we walked over to Mellow Mushroom. It is this cool pizza place with very interesting outdoor decor and seating area.
Since this was early spring and chilly, we walked inside.
As I stepped inside, I saw a brightly painted bench to my left. I looked over and there, painted on the side of the bench was.....yep, Kokopelli.
Ok, this was getting weird!
I started laughing and told Eman..."Dear..we are moving here."
He thought a moment, then realized since he owned his own business and could really be anywhere as long as he was near an Interstate, it was fine.
So, thats how we eneded up here!
And I must admit, I kept saying over and over our first few months here..."Honey, I am home."

I live near this lake and I love driving by a few times a week.

Another view of the lake during fall. This church steeple sits a few miles away, but beautifully reflects in the lake!

This is a view from Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak in the east. This was taken a few summers ago when my dad was here visiting. It is always much cooler up there and is typically raining or snowing. The clouds were moving in and it created a 'window' on the view below.

2 Spectacular Comments.

Great story and the pictures are lovely. I have never been east of Mississippi. I didn't realize how beautiful it is there.

There really isn't anything pretty here in Tulsa, Oklahoma unless you like red mud.

Oh, do you still have your other blog that you were working on about a month or so ago about your life story?

Well thank goodness I didn't miss this post! I am still behind, sorry. I am so glad to know your story. And it is okay about Biltmore, really, I do understand.
We love the mellow mushroom too! They have one in Winston.
What a beautiful, beautiful place but I had no idea it was so cool too.
Awesome pictures btw.
